Our Muskegon Office

Our Office

"The best dentistry is no dentistry."

Dr. Omer Reed

Dentistry today is no longer drill, fill, and bill. Modern dentistry consists of total health involvement. There are a number of areas of health that we focus on as part of dental wellness. This allows us to live longer, healthier lives with less medical expenses.

Click on each area of wellness to learn more about it.

Decay is an infectious disease that is approximately 99% preventable. Prevention starts with the first dental visit by age one.
  • Routine use of diagnostic technology such as the laser-based DIAGNOdent allows decay preventing sealants to be used soon after teeth have erupted.
  • Decay is a pH imbalance which can be modified.
  • Digital X-Rays reduce radiation up to 90% and comes with tools to detect cavities at an earlier stage.
  • Shot free lasers that vaporize decay can often be used instead of drilling.
  • We teach proper homecare instead of simply telling you what to do.
  • Fluoride in several different forms can be used.
Periodontal disease is mankind's most rampant, dangerous disease. It is an infectious disease often called the "silent killer." The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) concluded that 3 out of 4 individuals over the age of 12 have some stage or periodontal disease. While it is preventable and treatable, if left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss. It is estimated that 75% of teeth removed in people over age 35 is related to periodontal disease. It adds to the inflammatory process in the body and has been linked to a host of medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, infertility problems, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

It is just as important to know your periodontal health numbers (number of bleeding points and pocket depths) as it is to know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers!
Oral cancer kills one person in the United States every hour. When detected visually by the naked eye, the disease could be in the third or fourth stage, where the cancer is advanced. The fatality rate for oral cancer is about 50% in five years.
Using technology such as the OralID, Lumbertown Dental Wellness can look for oral cancer before it is visible. If caught early, oral cancer can be treated easier and with a higher degree of success.
Snoring and sleep apnea screening can be done in any dental office, even though the dentist cannot diagnose the disease. Both of these disease are life threatening. Dr. Donley has received specialized training in using oral appliances to treat snoring and sleep apnea.
Routinely taking blood pressure readings has been standard for more than forty years for dentists. Patients see their dentist more often than their doctor and blood pressure problems can be found earlier. Lumbertown Dental Wellness takes your blood pressure during each wellness visit, so that we can monitor your status and notify your doctor if anything is abnormal. Failure to treat high blood pressure can lead to a heart attack, stroke, or any other host of other health problems.
A smile evaluation is performed because your smile is the first thing other people notice when they meet you. A poor smile can affect a person's self-confidence, job offering, and business success. Tooth whitening, orthodontics (braces), veneers, and crowns can all be used to improve a smile.

Why Choose Us

  • You will feel like you are part of the family

We want our guests to feel they are part of our family. Our goal is to make you comfortable and "at home" for each anf every visit.

  • You won't feel rushed in and out

As part of our family, we want you to feel that you can ask questions that you may have about our treatment or a procedure. In return, we will not rush any procedure if it takes longer than usual. We want you to leave with the best results and complete satisfaction.

  • Reduced x-ray exposure with digital x-rays

Digital X-rays provide for patient safety with little exposure to harmful radiation.

  • We take the time to educate you on what was found, what needs to be done, and why

You should have a choice in the treatment that you receive. Through education we aim to help you make an intelligent choice that will lead to lower health expenses over the years as well as a greater quality of life and greater longevity.

  • We teach you to preserve your teeth and have a healthy mouth

We believe that teeth should last a lifetime. About 90% of people first coming to the office do not know how to floss and brush properly. The hygienist or assistant will assist you and/or your child to develop good skills in plaque removal, the first step in having a healthy mouth.

  • We have created a healthy mouth baseline to improve quality of life and longevity

Our healthy mouth baseline explains what we do and how we can help you live longer and healthier. This chart will allow you to be part of the process.

  • We are one of the most experienced dental offices using laser technology

Our office has been using the latest in laser technology since 2004, well before many other offices in the entire state of Michigan.
